Activity 6

Okay, so you know all about puppets and you have decided what type of puppet you would like to make. You should have already started to make these in Art!
Now it is time to think about your puppet play script.  You know that the theme is culture, so your puppet play will be related to a folktale from a different country.  And by now you will have thought about how you might want your puppet play to look.
You would have had a look at some puppet plays on the Internet and maybe you have acted them out with your friends.  Now you will need to share with the group what you thought of it.  This would only need to be a few simple comments like whether you liked it, found it funny, or whatever.  If you tell the group you didn't like it, make sure you tell them why because they will want to know.  Also, make sure you tell the group which play you are talking about (there is more than one).

Happy sharing.

Activity 5

Making Puppets

As you already know, there are heaps of different types of puppets that you could make.  What you need to do is to decide which type of puppet will be the best one for you to make.

For example, you might decide that a String Puppet will simply take too much time, and be too hard to make.  You might decide then that you should make a Hand Puppet because a Rod or Finger Puppet will be too easy.  The choice is yours!

Tell the group what type of puppet you think you would like to make.  You might also want to tell the group why you think you want to make this type of puppet.

Happy sharing.

Activity 2

Before you look at some puppets, I want you to tell the class all that you can about puppets. You might want to tell the class about a story you remember, about a puppet show you have seen, or any puppets you have made before. You might also want to ask me a question. Or you might like to ask each other questions. Take this chance to share with everybody! Remember to click on the comment icon to post your comment.

I would like to share with you my favourite puppet story. When I was a little girl, probably a little younger than you are now, my favourite show on TV was "Adventure Island." Each episode began with the host, Sue Donovan having a conversation with a house called Mr. Serendipity. Sue would walk into the house where she would talk with Crispian Cockatoo, Gracie Galah, Maxie Mouse and a vertical waveform called Chi. Crispian, Gracie and Mazie were all puppets. Each day the story - usually involved the inhabitants of Diddley-Dum-Diddley being set upon or tricked in some way by one or more of the "baddies". The show had a strong "good over evil" theme in every story. Each show would close with Sue talking to Samson the cat, another puppet, but on Fridays she would click her fingers and magically transport herself to Diddley-Dum-Diddley for a sitdown chat and a cup of tea with all the characters.
Happy sharing and I am looking forward to reading your comments, hopfully there will be some very interesting stories.
